Today, in defiance of the heavy agenda of the country, I wanted to write something light. Even though we never stay silent in the face of injustice, we must still choose to be happy within our own little worlds. Otherwise, life becomes nothing short of a rollercoaster of fear.
I want to write about”Bucket List”.
When the idea first crossed my mind, I did a little public opinion poll, as I usually do. I asked whoever happened to be closest to me at that moment—who, frankly, are usually the exact same people anyway. :)))
When I asked my closest friends if they had a bucket list, they mostly just looked at my face blankly. I know, to some, this concept might seem a bit pretentious. Of course, everyone has dreams or goals; but I realized that no one in my immediate circle actually writes them down as a list. Then I turned inward and asked myself, “Wait, do I have one?” As I gently nudged my mind, a couple of things started to shape up. Then I said to myself, “Come on Nazan, make a bucket list; let’s see what pours out of your heart…”
So, here is my list… I wanted to share it with you completely as it comes, with no order of importance or priority:
- Speaking a new language as a Native:
My adventure with Spanish is long-term and permanent. I wouldn’t want to leave this world without learning this language well enough to speak it like a native. - Getting to know the Far Eastern culture up close:
Especially Japan, China, Thailand, and Vietnam… I would love to spend perhaps a year in that region; taking my time, without any rush, truly absorbing and understanding their ancient traditions, temples, food culture, and philosophies. - Silence:
A silence retreat experience where I can keep my mouth shut for a while and distance myself from all the noise of the world… A journey where I can truly grasp the value and importance of speaking and listening silently, completely alone with myself. - Playing a musical instrument:
Drums! I am incredibly lucky in this regard; a childhood friend whom I crossed paths with again after many years happens to be a master of this craft. We are going to start working together at the end of the summer. Mind you, he doesn’t know about this yet; he’ll find out when he reads this article. 🙂 This way, we’ll also test whether he actually follows my blog posts or not. - Love:
Falling in love a few more times in this life… But not in a serious, heavy, or drawn-out kind of way; more like a summer romance. Passionate, vibrant, and exciting, but the kind that won’t hurt when it ends. Free, without the burden of responsibility or a sense of belonging… - Travel:
I’m not talking about short, touristy trips. I want to spend a whole season in every place I visit. Being on the road, but taking it slow, resting along the way… Giving every city and every society the time they truly deserve to be understood and known. Not just scratching the surface of their food and drink culture, but learning it in detail. Maybe taking a few short courses or workshops there. - Sports:
It sounds challenging, but I believe I can do it. Perhaps I just haven’t had the chance to experience the specific sport that speaks to my soul yet. But I have a couple of ideas in mind. For instance, I love walking; I can take this passion into nature. A friend of mine has covered quite some ground on this path. Who knows, maybe I too can do a Camino de Santiago walk to test my own physical limits. I really should.
These are the things that poured out of my heart at first glance, completely unforced.
I believe that setting goals, dreaming, and having faith are the essential fuel needed to reach our desired reality when the time is right. On the other hand, I can’t help but be captivated by the magic of those unexpected surprises that life throws at us, even when we aren’t ready.
So, as you can see, I am deeply devoted both to Rumi’s words, “As you start on the way, the way appears,” and to John Lennon’s famous saying, “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”
Accepting both with grace and gratitude…
With love,
Nazan
