I’m going through a period in my life that I could describe as challenging—or rather, we are going through it. As I write these words, something is happening all across the world. Unrest in different geographies, injustices in my country, the erosion of the rule of law, the cruelty inflicted on stray animals, the economic conditions squeezing us tight…
Until now, my motto has been to stay aware of all this, do what I can, yet still choose to be happy within my own small world. I remind myself of this motto as much as I can. But we are only human…
Good things happen too, of course, but because algorithms seem to want us to see only the bad, it feels as though darkness is trampling over each of us.
Life isn’t monotonous for any of us. There are always ups and downs, and there always will be. I accept this now and move forward with my life accordingly. Naturally, as the hardship grows, there are moments when I feel stuck, as if I can’t find a way out. As life grows harsher, the instinct to hold onto control kicks in.
Amid anxiety, worry, stress, and a lack of trust, we grip the rope in our hands even tighter, letting it cut into our palms. Terrified of falling, we refuse to let go of control. But things reach a point where every path becomes blocked, every door slams shut in our faces, and helplessness rises above our heads.
It is precisely at times like these, when exhaustion sets in and the strength to fight runs out, that a heavy, resounding breath releases from deep within my lungs the moment I finally say, “Alright, that’s it.”
With that deep breath, I dare to let go of the rope, and in that instant, I realize I’m not falling. A power greater than myself seems to take over, and things begin to unravel naturally. Water flows; even if it doesn’t always take the route I intended, it somehow finds its way.
During the times I let go of control, my sleep improves, and the morning sun appears brighter. The reality that I cannot solve every problem blends with the reality that I am not all-powerful, birthing the luxury of saying “so be it” to whatever comes.
And the more I say “so be it,” grace-filled help, tiny surprises, and forgotten precious treasures unexpectedly show up in front of me. My experiences and memories bear witness: all of this happens only when I stop forcing the system, do my part, accept what is, and keep walking my path.
So why, then, do we still fear falling? Because out of an urge for self-preservation, the human mind is wired to focus on the darkest depths. Most of us imagine crashing against the rocks rather than catching the wind beneath our wings and flying. Yet daring to entertain the possibility of flight is the first step toward viewing life through a completely different lens.
According to my personal belief, as human beings who have come into this realm, we experience every kind of duality across different times or parallel dimensions, undergoing a series of trials. In this process, our thoughts construct the next moment of our lives. Being able to contemplate flying instead of falling, or the rose instead of the thorn, is the most powerful key shaping the next phase of our journey.
And perhaps the true essence lies in being able to ask yourself that gentle, compassionate question when you reach the edge of the cliff:
What if I fly?
