The other day, while scrolling through Instagram, I came across a quote:
“You can spend years becoming someone and then wake up one morning knowing very clearly that you are meant to be someone else.”
I found this quote really interesting. It got me thinking, so I shared it on my Instagram account. “Well, why should I be the only one thinking about it? 🙂
I have no idea what you thought about it, but I decided to look at it a little more deeply.
Imagine waking up one morning, feeling tired of being the person you are and wanting to become someone else. I think that’s a wonderful thing! Wouldn’t it be great if we could fit more than one person or character, different sets, scripts, supporting actors and extras into the one life we get to live?
Imagine waking up, looking in the mirror and saying, “Okay, my dear self, starting today, I’m going to become a whole new version of myself!” And I believe there’s no age limit or gender restriction when it comes to making that decision.
I think we’ve all grown tired of the lives we’ve created for ourselves from time to time. The same house, the same bed, the same bathroom, the same people, the same office, the same identity…
But how many of us are actually willing to roll up our sleeves and break free from the identities we’ve spent years building and working so hard to create?
Of course, a new identity doesn’t just arrive on a silver platter, either. It takes effort to build that new version of yourself, too.
I think the real point here is having the courage to dance with life like this. In other words, it’s not just about waking up one morning and wanting to become a completely different person. It’s about actually making it happen.
Different tastes, completely different goals… Giving milky coffee a chance when you’ve always preferred it black. Cutting your hair short after wearing it long for years. Making big changes to your personal style. Taking control of your life instead of just going with the flow. Giving up makeup when you’ve always loved wearing it, or doing the exact opposite.
In other words, it could be anything from changing the little things that define who we are right now to making more radical changes, even when it comes to the job we do for a living.
Of course, this new identity won’t just come into existence overnight, either. We’ll have to put just as much effort into creating it as we did when we built the identity we have today.
And while creating this new version of ourselves, we get to start from scratch. We can rethink the character, tastes, habits and fears of the person we want to become. For example, if you’re someone who’s always serious and rarely smiles, you can choose to become a more cheerful and fun-loving person. Or maybe you’re tired of always being the fun one, and you want your new self to be calmer and more serious.
As the identity you know yourself by, and the one others know you by, begins to evolve into something different, both your inner voice and the people close to you will naturally be surprised. There will be comments, both positive and negative. Even the people closest to you might say, “I think they’ve lost it!”
But nobody’s losing their mind here. It’s simply a matter of deciding, “That’s it. I’m done. I’m going to become someone else,” and having the courage to follow through.
And if you’re genuinely committed to this decision and brave enough to take that step, why not?
Now, let’s talk about me.
I’ve grown tired of certain parts of who I am, but not all of them. 🙂 I’ve decided to change the parts I’m no longer happy with and create a new version of myself. For example, I don’t like the person I become when I’m faced with problems anymore. And there are also some habits I’m a little too attached to that I’m not happy with. I think I’ll start with these things and take it from there. The rest will follow, I guess.
With Love,
Nazan
